BUFORD GA – James Albert Stewart Jr. (Jim) of Buford, Georgia passed away peacefully on Monday, February 1, 2016 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Brasleton, Georgia at the age of 31. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia on March 29, 1984 to James A. Stewart Sr. (Jim) and Doria Ann Stewart (Dykes).
He grew up in Lawrenceville Georgia and attended Berkmar High School graduating in 2002. As a Junior at Berkmar Jim served as Sports Editor of the school newspaper”The Liberty”. In his Senior year he was Editor in Chief. That year,”The Liberty” staff garnered 22 individual awards from the Georgia Scholastic Press Association as well as”Best Editorial Page” for the state of Georgia.
Jim was awarded scholarships to The Universities of Colorado ,Georgia, Michigan, Northwestern and ultimately a Chancellors Scholarship to the Syracuse University Newhouse School of Public Communications , graduating Cum Laude in May of 2007 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Broadcast Journalism.
After graduation Jim worked as Director of Broadcasting for Brevard College(N.C.) Department of Athletics, where he was the”Voice of the Tornadoes”, delivering play-by-play (his passion) of all major sports and covering several sports as a writer for the Sports Information Department.
After his time at Brevard College Jim returned home to Georgia where he worked as a freelance broadcaster, writer and tutor.
God imparted special gifts to Jim, the most evident of those being a true photographic memory. His main focus was sport statistics. He loved to watch and read about all sports especially college football.
A kind, gentle soul with a”Beautiful Mind” is finally at peace.
Surviving are his parents, Jim and Doria Stewart of Buford GA, A sister, Kristen Stewart and her partner Benjamin Lewis of Buford GA , paternal grandmother, Maxine Stewart of Kingstown MD , maternal grandfather Robert Witt of Duluth GA , an Uncle, Timothy Stewart of Liberty SC, Aunts Kimberly Johnston of Easton MD , and Simthia Stewart of Rockville MD., and a beloved niece, Kori Lewis of Buford GA.
A celebration of life will be held at The Bridge Community Church, 2026 Braselton Hwy, Buford, GA. 30519 on Saturday February 20th 3 P.M. Attendees dress will be fanfare of their favorite sports team.
